What is Medical Stabilization & Drug Detoxification?
Long-term substance abuse is profoundly taxing on the body and brain.
Medical professionals who specialize in recovering from drug abuse, use a medical intervention process called medical stabilization, also known as medical detoxification, or more commonly called “detox.”
Medical stabilization can safely help a substance abuser’s body expel the drugs from itself while helping a substance abuser make it through the experience of acute withdrawal.
The primary goal of any stabilization and detoxing program is to help the body and mind return to a level of stability and begin healing after a sustained period of drug or alcohol addiction detox center.
Once the person recovering is stabilized, they can more easily transition to a long-term treatment program. It’s important to understand that detoxification is not the end goal itself; rather, it can be the beginning of recovery. After detoxification, a recovering drug abuser is often in a better position to more fully benefit from the recovery process offered by Pomarri’s – drug and alcohol stabilization treatment programs.
Based on extensive experience, as well as recent clinical studies, it has been found that a longer detoxification episode resulted in lower relapse rates.
At Pomarri, our alcohol detox center ranges from 8-12 weeks.
No two drug users are alike. The types of drugs they used, the amount and even the potency of drugs means that everyone will have a different experience with detox.
Pomarri uses various medications during someone’s detox to help keep the former user as comfortable as possible while the drugs are cleansed from their body.
