About Lehi, Utah

Named for a prophet in the Book of Mormon, Lehi is a mid-sized city that is part of the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area. The ACS Demographic and Housing Estimates of 2016 found that the city has a population of 56,314, and enjoys a warm, moderate climate.

  • Lehi Main Street Historic District

One of Lehi’s best-known attractions is the downtown area, which the National Park Service has designated the Lehi Main Street Historic District, and has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The area, which is around five acres in size, features historical Italianate and Gothic architecture, and is a popular tourist destination in the area.

  • Footloose

A less historical tourist point, but one well worth mentioning, is the Lehi Roller Mills – a family-owned mill that was founded over 100 years ago. However, the mill earned a place in cinematic history as the location for Kevin Bacon’s workplace in Footloose, and the site of his character’s most famous dance sequence. As with the Lehi Main Street Historic District, the Lehi Roller Mills are also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

  • Thanksgiving Point

In addition, the Lehi Main Street Historic District, the museum complex and gardens of Thanksgiving Point are also a popular attraction for those visiting Lehi. The complex is large and features the Thanksgiving Point Gardens, a golf course, the Museum of Anxiety Life, and the Museum of Natural Curiosity, and regularly hosts a Tulip Festival, a Scottish festival, Highland Games, and Halloween festivities each October.

  • Lehi in the future

Lehi was once famed for its agricultural economy, but has embraced the pace of change, and is currently home to a DRAM microchip plant owned by IM Flash Technologies, as well as an Adobe Systems building.

Impressively, one in 14 of every flash memory chips currently in existence in the world was produced in Lehi as a result of the Micron Technology plant.
