About Orem, Utah
Incorporated in 1919, Orem is located on the shore of Utah Lake, at the base of Mount Timpanogos. The town is the fifth largest city in Utah with a population under 100,000 and is home to Utah Valley University. Orem is also known as an area for high spiritual well-being. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints make up a sizable proportion of the population. Utah is, of course, the home of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and for a while, Orem was known as Sharon, the same name as the town where Joseph Smith, the founder of the church was born. In 1914, the town was renamed after Walter C. Orem, who was President of the Salt Lake and Utah Railroad.
